Gaylord, Michigan – Smoky skies and poor air quality remain a concern across Northern Michigan today, with a warm but hazy Tuesday keeping residents indoors and alert. Highs are expected to reach 76–84°F under a blanket of smoke drifting down from Canadian wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, winds will begin to shift more southwesterly by Wednesday, gradually pushing smoke out of the region and improving air quality. An Air Quality Advisory remains in effect through the rest of today, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues. Residents are encouraged to limit prolonged outdoor activity and keep windows closed until conditions improve.

While skies remain smoky Tuesday, clearer and warmer conditions are expected midweek. Highs will climb into the low to mid-80s Wednesday, with Thursday and Friday pushing into the upper 80s. A few isolated showers are possible late in the week but aren’t expected to bring widespread relief.

The National Weather Service notes that improvements in visibility and breathing conditions may begin as early as Wednesday afternoon, but advisories could be reissued if wind patterns shift again.
