Michigan — Snow swirls through the headlights this morning in northern Michigan, soft at first glance but relentless in motion. Wind pushes flakes sideways, and roads lose definition as winter storms the region on the final day of 2025.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for portions of northern Lower Michigan, including Gaylord, Otsego, Antrim, Kalkaska, and Crawford counties. Lake-effect snow is expected to continue through Thursday evening, with widespread totals of 4 to 8 inches and locally higher amounts near persistent bands.

Snowfall intensity will vary sharply over short distances. One neighborhood may see steady accumulation while another briefly dries out. Gusty winds, reaching near 35 mph at times, will cause blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility quickly and making travel difficult.

Roads are expected to remain snow-covered and slick. Bridges and overpasses will be especially hazardous. Travel along I-75 and surrounding highways may slow significantly, with changing conditions through New Year’s Day 2026. Drivers should carry winter emergency supplies and avoid unnecessary trips.

Temperatures remain locked in the teens today, with wind chills dipping below zero. Cold air lingers into New Year’s Day, keeping snow light but persistent. Any daytime melting will refreeze quickly after sunset, increasing black ice risks.

By Friday, snowfall becomes more scattered. Skies remain mostly cloudy, and highs struggle to reach the upper teens. The first weekend of 2026 stays cold and unsettled. Saturday brings additional snow chances with highs near 20, while Sunday trends slightly milder but still wintry.

Conditions will remain fluid as lake-effect bands shift. Additional advisories may be issued as snow continues.
