Gaylord, MI – A mix of rain, snow, and possible icy conditions will impact parts of northern Michigan today, with the greatest travel concerns focused in the Upper Peninsula this morning.
According to the US National Weather Service in Gaylord, northern Lower Michigan will see mostly rain throughout the day, with a chance for a rain-snow mix later before precipitation tapers off. High temperatures are expected to range from the upper 30s to near 50 degrees.
In eastern Upper Michigan, however, a light wintry mix — including possible freezing rain — is expected during the morning hours. Forecasters warn that roads could become icy, especially on untreated surfaces, creating hazardous travel conditions early in the day.
Precipitation chances will diminish later this afternoon, with only a slight chance of snow lingering in parts of the eastern UP.
Colder air moves in tonight, bringing lows down into the single digits above zero in the eastern Upper Peninsula and into the teens across northern Lower Michigan. The colder pattern will continue into Friday, with highs only reaching the 20s and 30s.
Light snow showers remain possible Friday into Saturday, particularly in eastern Upper Michigan, before conditions improve heading into Sunday.
Drivers are urged to use caution this morning, especially in areas where freezing rain may create slick roads.
