Gaylord, Mich. – Northern Michigan residents should prepare for an unusual mix of late-summer hazards, with dangerous swim conditions on Lake Michigan and the season’s first chance of patchy frost arriving Friday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a high swim risk is in effect for beaches in Manistee County today, with strong currents and hazardous waves expected. Officials urge swimmers and boaters to avoid the water until conditions improve.
Meanwhile, cooler nighttime temperatures are on the way for much of northern Lower and eastern Upper Michigan. Patchy frost is possible Friday night, particularly in inland valleys and low-lying areas. Gardeners may want to cover sensitive plants, while campers should prepare for cold overnight conditions.
Daytime weather looks favorable once the showers move out Thursday, with mostly sunny skies returning Friday and lasting into early next week. Highs will climb into the upper 60s and mid-70s, while overnight lows drop into the low-to-mid 40s.
The National Weather Service says patchy frost remains possible through Wednesday morning in colder spots. Additional statements may be issued if widespread frost becomes more likely.
