Gaylord, Michigan – Hazy skies will persist across much of Michigan through Monday, with wildfire smoke impacting air quality, particularly for sensitive groups. While conditions remain mostly dry, rain chances will increase heading into midweek, with significant rainfall expected by Wednesday.
According to the US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan, tonight, July 13, skies will be mostly clear but hazy with smoke, bringing overnight lows between 57 and 64 degrees. On Monday, July 14, similar conditions will continue, with mainly dry weather, isolated showers, and highs ranging from 81 to 89 degrees.
The persistent smoke, originating from Canadian wildfires, is creating elevated levels of fine particulate matter, especially in northern Michigan. Residents across the state, especially those with respiratory conditions or heart disease, should limit strenuous outdoor activities. Officials recommend keeping windows closed overnight to prevent smoke from entering homes and using central air conditioning with MERV-13 or higher-rated filters if possible.
Hazy conditions may also dim the sun and create vibrant sunrises and sunsets. By Tuesday, July 15, the weather pattern shifts slightly, bringing an increased chance of afternoon showers, with highs remaining warm, between 82 and 89 degrees.
The National Weather Service advises residents to stay updated on air quality advisories. While the smoke is expected to gradually dissipate after Monday, the next significant weather system bringing widespread rain is still several days out, signaling a continued period of dry, warm, and hazy conditions.
