Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan is gearing up for a colder and potentially snowy weekend as a new weather system moves in, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord.

Forecasters say today will stay mostly quiet aside from some morning lake effect snow showers across the eastern Upper Peninsula. Rain showers are expected to return tonight and continue through Friday, followed by a noticeable temperature drop into the weekend.

Colder air arriving Saturday will bring a mix of rain and snow showers, with the potential for accumulating snow developing Saturday night into Sunday. Highs will fall from the upper 40s and 50s early in the week to the 30s by Sunday, marking the season’s first taste of wintry conditions for much of northern Michigan.

The NWS advises residents and travelers to stay alert for changing road conditions and the potential for slick spots, especially in higher elevations and rural areas.
