Gaylord, Michigan – Lake effect snow will continue Wednesday, bringing up to 4 inches in spots and keeping roads snow-covered and slick across northern Michigan.
According to the US National Weather Service in Gaylord, additional snowfall is expected through the day, with the heaviest bands focused on western Chippewa County and parts of the northwest Lower Michigan snowbelt. Some localized areas may see totals approaching 4 inches before snow tapers early Thursday morning.
Road conditions remain hazardous along major corridors including Interstate 75, US-131 and M-32, particularly in areas experiencing persistent lake effect bands. Snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility may create slow travel during the morning and afternoon hours.
High temperatures Wednesday are expected to range between 17 and 27 degrees, limiting melting. Overnight lows will drop into the single digits and lower teens as conditions gradually turn drier.
Additional afternoon snow showers are possible Thursday, with highs between 25 and 32 degrees. A brief moderating trend is expected Friday, when highs could reach the upper 30s to lower 50s with a mix of sun and clouds.
Colder air returns over the weekend, with snow showers possible and daytime highs falling back into the teens and 20s.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time and check road conditions before traveling, especially along I-75 between Gaylord and the Mackinac Bridge.
The ongoing snow may impact school transportation routes and regional freight traffic.
Further updates will be issued as lake effect bands shift.
