Gaylord, Mich. – Drivers across northern Michigan should prepare for light snow and patchy fog along I-75 and M-32 through 6 p.m. Sunday, with brief slick spots possible across parts of northeast Lower Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, scattered light snow showers will continue today, primarily impacting the eastern U.P. and northeast Lower. While snowfall totals are expected to remain light, generally under 1 inch, reduced visibility in patchy fog could create sudden changes in road conditions, especially on untreated secondary roads and bridges.
High temperatures Sunday will range from the mid-30s to mid-40s, limiting widespread accumulation. However, motorists traveling along US-131 and M-72 should remain alert for wet pavement that could briefly turn slushy during heavier bursts.
Mild air lingers into early week. Monday brings highs between 38 and 53 degrees, with periods of light mixed precipitation possible over the eastern U.P. before transitioning to light rain spreading into northern Lower by midday. Most main highways, including I-75 from Grayling to Mackinaw City, are expected to remain mainly wet.
A more widespread system arrives Wednesday, with mixed precipitation and possible accumulating snow over the eastern U.P. and parts of northern Lower Michigan. Highs will range from the low 30s to upper 40s.
Drivers should monitor updated forecasts as midweek precipitation details become clearer and additional advisories may be issued if snowfall amounts increase.
