Gaylord, Michigan – Light snow will continue across parts of northern Michigan through tonight, with additional accumulations expected by Tuesday morning that could impact travel along major roadways.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, northwest Lower Michigan and eastern Upper Michigan can expect an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow before the snow tapers off Tuesday morning. Snowfall is expected to be light but persistent enough to create slick conditions, especially overnight.
Communities along I-75, US-31, US-131 and M-32, including Gaylord, Traverse City, Petoskey and surrounding areas, may see snow-covered roads at times. Drivers traveling late tonight or early Tuesday are urged to use caution, particularly on untreated roads and secondary highways.
Temperatures are forecast to cool into the low teens and 20s Tuesday, allowing snow to remain on road surfaces. Lingering snow showers are expected across northwest Lower Michigan during the day Tuesday, with partial clearing possible by Tuesday night.
Midweek conditions will briefly moderate. Wednesday is expected to be partly cloudy, followed by increasing clouds and a chance for snow late Thursday as another weather system approaches the region.
By Friday, a stronger cooldown is anticipated. The National Weather Service reports that temperatures will start the day in the 20s and 30s, then fall through the day, signaling a return to colder winter conditions heading into the weekend.
While no major winter storm is expected at this time, the combination of light snowfall, cold temperatures and changing conditions could impact commuters, students and travelers across northern Michigan.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and road conditions, especially if traveling overnight or during the Tuesday morning commute.
