Gaylord, Michigan – Light accumulating snow early Monday is expected to affect travel across parts of northern Michigan, including areas near I-75 and US-31.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, light snow moved into the region early this morning, with accumulations of 1 to 2 inches likely across portions of eastern Upper Michigan and northwest Lower Michigan. While snowfall amounts are modest, untreated roads and bridges may become slick during the morning commute.

High temperatures today are expected to range from 24 to 28 degrees, allowing snow to accumulate on colder surfaces. Motorists traveling along I-75, US-131, US-31, and nearby state highways should be prepared for reduced traction, especially in rural and wooded areas.

Behind this system, temperatures are forecast to cool further for Tuesday and Wednesday. The National Weather Service reports that lake effect snow is possible Tuesday, particularly in established snowbelt regions, which could result in localized slick spots even where broader snowfall is limited.

High temperatures Tuesday are expected to remain cold, generally between 12 and 23 degrees, with Wednesday highs ranging from 19 to 25 degrees. Forecasters note that persistent cold will limit melting, allowing snow and ice to linger on roadways.

Looking ahead, another sharply colder air mass is expected to arrive by Saturday, reinforcing winter conditions across northern Michigan. While additional snowfall amounts were not specified, colder temperatures may further impact travel and outdoor plans.

Students, early-shift workers, and long-distance commuters may be most affected by the timing of snowfall and cold morning temperatures. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and road conditions as lake effect bands can change rapidly.
