Gaylord, Michigan – Accumulating snow is expected to impact the Gaylord area from today through Sunday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions across parts of northern Michigan.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are forecast for much of the region between 7 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday. Forecasters say localized totals of 7 inches or more are possible where heavier snow bands develop, particularly during the evening and overnight hours.
The NWS reports that snow will gradually spread across northern Michigan today, with the heaviest snowfall expected this evening and tonight. Gusty winds accompanying the system may further reduce visibility, especially in open areas and along north–south roadways, increasing the risk for difficult driving conditions.
While snowfall rates may vary throughout the event, the combination of accumulating snow, blowing snow, and reduced visibility is expected to be the primary hazard. Roads may quickly become snow-covered during heavier bursts, making travel conditions unpredictable at times.
Residents are urged to use caution if traveling, allow extra time to reach destinations, and be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions. Those traveling overnight or early Sunday morning should be especially alert, as snowfall may still be ongoing in some areas.
Snow is expected to taper off Sunday morning, with conditions gradually improving as the system exits the region. However, untreated roads may remain slick even after snowfall ends.
This weather may be especially relevant for weekend travelers, early-morning workers, and anyone driving on rural or secondary roads around the Gaylord area.
The National Weather Service advises monitoring local forecasts for updated snowfall totals and timing as the system moves through northern Michigan.
