Gaylord, MI – A familiar winter pattern continues across northern Michigan this week, with repeated rounds of snow, lake-effect activity, and cold temperatures holding firm through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, lingering lake-effect snow showers are expected today, with high temperatures ranging from 10 to 17 degrees. Conditions are forecast to worsen tonight, as a burst of snow develops, transitioning to northwest to west-northwest flow lake effect.
Overnight lows are expected to fall to between 0 and 10 degrees, allowing snow-covered roads to refreeze and creating slick travel conditions by early Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday, snow showers are forecast to continue, accompanied by breezy conditions. High temperatures are expected to reach 10 to 18 degrees, limiting melting and allowing snow to accumulate in favored lake-effect areas. The National Weather Service said additional light accumulations of a few inches of snow are possible with each passing round.
Snow showers are expected to persist into Wednesday, with even colder conditions developing. High temperatures Wednesday are forecast between 7 and 17 degrees, reinforcing a prolonged cold stretch expected to last into early February.
Forecasters noted that while no single storm appears extreme, the repetitive nature of the snowfall will continue to impact travel, especially during overnight and early morning hours. Commuters, students, and early-shift workers should plan for snow-covered roads and reduced visibility at times.
Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit prolonged outdoor exposure, and monitor updated forecasts as lake-effect bands shift.
