Gaylord, MI – Lake-effect snow showers will continue across parts of northern Michigan tonight as colder air settles into the region, bringing another round of light to moderate accumulation before a much quieter stretch of weather arrives for the remainder of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, temperatures will drop into the 24–33°F range tonight, supporting additional snowfall across the eastern Upper Peninsula and portions of northeast Lower Michigan. Areas along Presque Isle and Alpena counties, as well as communities near Whitefish Point and Trout Lake, could see localized totals of 2–4 inches by early Monday morning. Other regions may see 1–3 inches, especially along the U.S.-23 corridor and near Rogers City.

Snow is expected to taper on Monday as winds shift and lake-effect bands weaken. Monday will be mostly cloudy with highs ranging from 35–42°F. By Tuesday and Wednesday, skies turn mostly sunny and temperatures slowly moderate, climbing into the upper 30s to mid-40s. Thursday continues the warming trend, bringing highs into the 43–50°F range despite increasing cloud cover.

Forecasters say precipitation chances remain minimal after Monday, setting up several calm days across northern Michigan. Roads may become slick overnight where snow bands remain persistent, and drivers should use caution early Monday, especially across rural stretches of Chippewa, Mackinac, Presque Isle, and Alpena counties.

The weather service will continue to monitor any lake-effect enhancements, but no significant hazards are expected beyond tonight’s snowfall.
