Gaylord, MI – The cold morning air bites across northern Michigan, where temperatures hover near 0°F and the ground crunches underfoot with frost. But forecasters warn the quiet calm will not last — heavy snow and strong winds are set to return by Tuesday night.
The National Weather Service in Gaylord has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for eastern Upper and northern Lower Michigan. A series of snow systems will impact the region through the week, beginning late Tuesday as moisture from the Great Lakes combines with Arctic air.
Snow will increase Tuesday afternoon and become heavy at times overnight, with 3 to 6 inches possible by Wednesday morning. Winds may gust up to 30 mph, creating blowing and drifting snow that could sharply reduce visibility along I-75, U.S. 131, and M-32.
Light snow continues through midweek before another disturbance brings additional accumulation chances Thursday into Friday. Temperatures remain locked in the 20s by day and teens at night — and by the weekend, wind chills could dip below zero once again across open fields and lakeshore areas.
