Lake County, IN – Troopers arrested a Gary man Saturday after he allegedly sideswiped a patrol car and attempted to flee the scene.

Troopers were investigating a crash involving an impaired driver near the I-65 ramp to I-80 westbound. Trooper Jace Haddon sat in his patrol car with emergency lights activated when a white Volvo sideswiped him and sped away.

According to Indiana State Police, Trooper Justin Baumeister found the vehicle stopped in the center lane and ordered the driver out. The driver, identified as Diandre Jamal Green, 34, initially refused but eventually complied. Officers removed a loaded handgun from Green’s waistband and found an open Hennessy bottle and a white powdery substance inside the car.

Troopers detected alcohol on Green’s breath and administered field sobriety tests, which he failed. Green refused a chemical test, prompting officers to request a warrant for a blood draw. Green was transported to a local hospital for testing before being booked into the Lake County Jail.

He faces charges including possession of cocaine while armed, operating while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of a crash.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
