Gary, IN – A 23-year-old Gary man has been identified following a fatal accident on Friday near Exit 261D, I-65 Southbound. Authorities confirmed that Dontez Sparks, of the 1500 block of Tennessee St., Gary, died from blunt force injuries.
Sparks was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:20 p.m. according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy was performed on Saturday at the Lake County Forensic Science Center in Crown Point. Toxicology results are still pending. The investigation indicates that the manner of death was accidental. Further details on how the accident occurred have yet to be released.
The Indiana State Police and Gary Fire Department were among the agencies that responded to the scene. The Lake County Coroner’s Office continues to investigate, with Sparks’ family assisting with identification.
