Gary, IN – A Gary man was fatally shot Tuesday morning on the city’s west side. Claudell Ellis, 44, was found with a gunshot wound at his residence on 3809 W. 10th Ave.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, authorities were called to Northlake Methodist Hospital, where Ellis was pronounced dead at 7:53 a.m. on Tuesday. His family confirmed his identity at the scene.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point. Medical examiners determined that Ellis died from a gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Local authorities, including the Gary Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, are investigating. The Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force has also joined the case. No suspects have been identified at this time.
