
Gary, IN – A Lake County man has been convicted on multiple felony charges connected to a 2022 shooting that left one person with life-threatening injuries, according to the Gary Police Department.
Officials said Paul Sloat was found guilty on October 16, 2025, of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery, Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, and Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
The charges stem from an incident on August 29, 2022, in the 5800 block of Melton Road, where Sloat allegedly shot an individual during an altercation. The victim suffered severe injuries but survived following emergency treatment.
Police said the conviction marks the end of a lengthy investigation and court process that began more than three years ago. Sloat is currently being held at the Lake County Jail awaiting sentencing.
Authorities commended investigators and prosecutors for their work in securing the conviction, emphasizing that violent crime will continue to be prosecuted aggressively in Gary and throughout Lake County.
