Dodge City, Kansas – Snow continues to affect southwest and west-central Kansas early Saturday, with slick road conditions expected to persist through early Sunday as the system slowly exits the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through early Sunday morning for Scott, Finney, Seward, Stevens, Morton, Grant, Stanton, Hamilton, Kearny, and Haskell counties. Additional snowfall of up to two inches is expected, mainly on top of earlier accumulations.
Communities including Garden City, Liberal, Scott City, Elkhart, Ulysses, Hugoton, and Syracuse may see intermittent light snow and blowing flakes through Saturday night. While snowfall rates are not expected to be heavy, cold temperatures will allow snow to stick on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Rural highways and county roads could become slick quickly, especially after sunset.
Travel impacts are expected along major routes such as U.S. 50, U.S. 83, and U.S. 54, where patchy snow cover may reduce traction. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time if heading out overnight or early Sunday.
Road conditions can change quickly as temperatures remain below freezing. Drivers are encouraged to check the latest updates by calling 511 before traveling. Snow should taper off by early Sunday morning, though lingering slick spots may remain through the start of the day.
