Hoffman Estates, IL – The Village Board recently approved changes to garage sale regulations, eliminating the need for residents to obtain a no-fee permit to conduct sales.

According to the Village of Hoffman Estates, residents can now hold garage sales without contacting the village. However, there are still rules that apply to the number, days, and hours of garage sales, as well as where signs may be placed. Specifically, residents are limited to three sales per address each year, and sales are only permitted on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays. Each sale can last for up to four consecutive days, beginning no earlier than 8 a.m. and ending by 6 p.m.

Signage is also regulated. Only one onsite sign is allowed on the front lawn, and up to two directional signs may be placed on private property with the owner’s permission. Signs cannot be posted before 6 a.m. on the first day of the sale and must be removed by 8 p.m. on the last day. Posting signs in public right-of-ways or on utility poles is prohibited.

For more detailed information on these new regulations, residents are encouraged to visit the Village of Hoffman Estates’ website or contact the Code Enforcement Division at 847-781-2631.
