Houston, Texas – Several Southeast Texas communities face rising flood risks Friday as saturated ground meets another round of heavy coastal storms.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. Friday for areas from Matagorda Bay through Galveston Bay, including Brazoria, Jackson, Liberty, and Harris counties. The region has already absorbed multiple days of rainfall, especially near Matagorda Bay, where Thursday’s deluge left the soil primed for runoff.

Cities including Bay City, Galveston, Angleton, and Pearland may see additional rainfall today, which could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, streets with poor drainage, and urban centers. Emergency managers urge drivers to avoid flooded roads and prepare for possible rapid water rises in streams and bayous.

Coastal roads like SH 35 near Palacios and FM 523 in Brazoria County could become waterlogged by midday. In Galveston and Bolivar Peninsula, stormwater runoff may pool quickly as rain intensifies.

Residents are advised to monitor alerts and charge mobile devices in case power outages occur. If travel is necessary, use caution on roads and watch for barricades.

More rainfall is possible this weekend, and additional advisories may follow depending on storm development.
