New York, NY – The National Weather Service in New York City has issued a Gale Watch for New York Harbor, the South Shore Bays, and coastal waters from Sandy Hook, NJ, to Montauk Point, NY, effective from Thursday morning through late Thursday night, October 30, 2025.

Forecasters warn of east winds 20–30 knots, with gusts up to 40 knots and seas reaching 7–11 feet, creating dangerous marine conditions for small and large vessels alike. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through 6 a.m. Thursday as winds increase and seas continue to build.

Conditions are expected to worsen Thursday morning as a coastal storm system intensifies offshore, bringing hazardous waves and reduced visibility. Mariners are strongly advised to remain in port, secure their vessels, and avoid open waters until the gale passes.

Winds are forecast to ease gradually by early Friday as the system moves away.
