Gainesville, Florida – A 50-year-old man was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at a neighbor early Thursday, prompting a law enforcement response in southwest Gainesville.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 7000 block of SW 6th Place during the early morning hours of Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, regarding a report of a suspicious person.

Deputies said they made contact with the victim, who reported that Christopher Tyson allegedly approached them while they were walking their dog. Tyson allegedly raised a firearm, pointed it at the victim and manipulated the slide before lowering the weapon and returning to his residence.

The victim told deputies a similar incident allegedly occurred the week prior, during which Tyson reportedly pointed a firearm and used an expletive.

Deputies went to Tyson’s home and issued loud verbal commands for him to exit. Authorities said he complied and was detained without incident.

A search warrant was later requested and approved for the residence. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies recovered a black semi-automatic handgun and a silver pellet gun.

Tyson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

The investigation remains ongoing.
