LINCOLN, IL – The National Weather Service in Central Illinois warns that dangerously cold air will move into the region this weekend, bringing subzero temperatures and life-threatening wind chills both Saturday night and Sunday night.
Wind chills are forecast to range from -15°F to -30°F, with air temperatures below zero across much of central and southern Illinois.
The coldest readings are expected late Saturday night into early Sunday, when frostbite could occur in under 30 minutes if skin is exposed.
Winds will remain light to moderate at 5–10 mph, occasionally gusting to 20 mph, further intensifying the cold.
Residents should take precautions by dressing in layers, covering all exposed skin, and limiting time outdoors. Pets should be brought indoors, and those without adequate heating should seek warming centers or safe shelter.
