Albany, N.Y. – Residents across parts of upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania should take precautions tonight as a cold snap brings the risk of frost through early Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Binghamton, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday for regions north of I-80 in Pennsylvania and stretching into interior portions of New York. Overnight lows are expected to dip to 34°F or lower, creating conditions that could damage or kill sensitive vegetation.

In Pennsylvania, areas including Clarion, DuBois, Oil City, and Punxsutawney are within the advisory zone. In New York, impacted locations include Elmira, Binghamton, and the Southern Tier region, where skies will clear tonight and winds will calm—setting up prime conditions for surface frost to form.

Gardeners and homeowners are urged to cover outdoor plants, bring potted plants indoors, and disconnect outdoor hoses to prevent damage. Pets should also be sheltered overnight.

This late-season frost comes after a mild weekend and serves as a reminder that spring planting should still be timed carefully in elevated and rural areas.

Advisories are expected to expire by 8 a.m. Tuesday, but colder valleys could remain frosty slightly longer. Updates will be issued if conditions change.
