Richmond, VA – A sharp dip in overnight temperatures is expected to bring frost conditions across central Virginia early Thursday, prompting a weather advisory for residents and growers alike.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. EDT Thursday, impacting a wide region including Fluvanna, Prince Edward, Cumberland, Goochland, Caroline, Nottoway, Amelia, Powhatan, and both western and eastern Louisa counties, as well as western Hanover.

Forecasters predict temperatures could fall as low as 35°F, creating conditions ripe for frost development. Sensitive vegetation could be damaged or destroyed if not properly protected.

The advisory encourages residents to take precautions by covering tender outdoor plants or bringing them inside overnight. While frost is typical for early spring in Virginia, temperatures this low are slightly below average for mid-April.

Gardeners and farmers should especially be on alert, as even brief exposure to frost can result in crop loss. No major travel impacts are expected, but early morning drivers may notice reduced visibility in low-lying areas due to frost.

Officials recommend monitoring local weather updates and protecting any vulnerable greenery ahead of the cold snap.
