Birmingham, AL – A frost advisory and wind warning have been issued across several Alabama counties, impacting plants and travel.

The National Weather Service issued a frost advisory for Barbour, Bullock, Marengo, Pike, Russell, and Sumter counties. This advisory will last from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Friday. Temperatures could dip as low as 33 degrees, leading to frost that may damage or kill sensitive plants if left uncovered.

In addition, a wind advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for counties including Jefferson, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa. Northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, may blow down trees and unsecured objects. Some power outages could also occur.

The NWS advises residents to secure outdoor items and exercise caution when driving high-profile vehicles. Residents should also cover tender plants or bring them indoors to prevent frost damage.

As Alabama braces for a cold and windy night, taking these precautions will help minimize impacts to homes, gardens, and travel.
