Green Bay, Wis. – Residents across northern and central Wisconsin should prepare for damaging frost early Sunday as temperatures dip into the low 30s overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. CDT Sunday for areas including Vilas, Oneida, Langlade, Lincoln, and Marinette counties. The cold snap may damage or kill sensitive plants if left uncovered.

Communities from Eagle River to Crivitz and Antigo to Tomahawk are all within the advisory zone. Gardeners and farmers should take precautions Saturday evening by covering vulnerable vegetation or moving plants indoors where possible.

While frost this late in May is uncommon, it’s not unprecedented in Wisconsin’s northern tier. Similar late-spring cold events occurred in 2017 and 2021, causing isolated agricultural losses.

The frost risk is expected to ease after 8 a.m. Sunday, but cooler-than-average temperatures may linger into early next week. Additional advisories could follow depending on overnight trends.
