Jackson, MS – A freeze warning is in effect across Mississippi tonight and Friday night as temperatures plunge below freezing. Residents near I-55 are urged to take precautions to protect sensitive vegetation and outdoor items. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that unprotected plants could suffer damage as temperatures are expected to drop as low as 28°F in some areas.

According to the NWS Jackson office, frost and freezing temperatures are most likely between midnight and early morning hours on Friday and Saturday. Tonight’s low in Jackson is expected to reach 37°F, while Friday night will dip even further to 35°F. Calm winds and clear skies will intensify the frost risk, particularly in rural and low-lying areas.

Residents should cover vulnerable plants or bring them indoors and disconnect garden hoses to prevent freezing damage. Drivers are advised to exercise caution on roadways, especially during early morning hours when frost may form on surfaces.

Looking ahead, Friday will bring sunny skies with a high near 58°F, followed by another clear and cold evening. Saturday promises slightly warmer daytime highs, reaching 65°F, but the freeze threat remains overnight with lows of 40°F. By Sunday, temperatures will climb significantly, with a high of 74°F and partly cloudy skies. Rain chances return late Monday into Tuesday.
