Gaylord, MI – The National Weather Service in Gaylord warns that dangerous cold and accumulating snow are on the way for parts of northern Michigan, beginning late Sunday night and continuing through Tuesday.
Temperatures tonight will plunge to between -12°F and +13°F, with the coldest readings in interior northern Michigan, including Grayling, Atlanta, and Mio, where lows could fall below -5°F. Lingering lake-effect snow showers will diminish overnight before redeveloping Monday afternoon.
By Monday, highs will range from 20°F to 28°F, as south-southwest winds increase, setting up another round of lake-effect snow for parts of the eastern Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Michigan.
Forecasters expect the heaviest snowfall from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, with 4 inches or more possible near Trout Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, and Whitefish Point. Blowing snow may create sudden drops in visibility and slick road conditions, particularly along I-75 and M-28.
Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speed, and stay updated on road conditions as temperatures stay below freezing through midweek.
