Milwaukee, WI – Winter is about to tighten its grip on Wisconsin. The National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan warns that an Arctic air mass will surge into the state late this week, bringing dangerously cold wind chills across southern Wisconsin beginning Friday night and lasting through Monday morning, December 15th.

Temperatures are forecast to plunge well below normal, with wind chill values between –10°F and –30°F, according to the latest outlook. The coldest conditions are expected Saturday night through Sunday morning, when brisk northwest winds combine with frigid temperatures to create life-threatening exposure risks.

“Even brief periods outdoors could lead to frostbite on exposed skin,” the NWS cautioned. “Make sure to dress in layers, wear a hat and gloves, and limit time spent outside.”

Along with the bitter cold, forecasters note scattered snow chances continuing into Friday, followed by a dry but brutally cold weekend. The Arctic outbreak marks the first major plunge of the season for southern Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Madison, Janesville, and Sheboygan.

Residents are urged to check on neighbors, bring pets indoors, and ensure heating systems are functioning properly before temperatures bottom out. If travel is necessary, keep an emergency winter kit in your vehicle with blankets, food, and water.

Conditions are expected to slowly moderate early next week, but temperatures will remain well below normal.
