Fresno, CA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Sierra Nevada through 10 p.m. Monday, with heavy snow expected above 7,000 feet across Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park and surrounding high-elevation regions.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, snowfall totals could reach up to 12 inches in the highest terrain, including areas such as Grant Grove, Lake Thomas Edison, Huntington Lake, Shaver Lake, Wawona, Lodgepole and Tuolumne Meadows. Snow will continue into Monday evening, affecting both the morning and evening commutes for anyone traveling through the Sierra.

Forecasters warn that travel may become very difficult to impossible along mountain roads, especially in steep or shaded sections where snow may accumulate quickly. Reduced visibility, icy surfaces and periods of moderate to heavy snowfall may impact routes into Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Backcountry areas will also experience challenging conditions.

Snow levels are expected to remain high enough that lower foothills avoid major impacts, but all high-elevation travel corridors—including Highway 168 and roads leading into the national parks—may face blockages, chain controls or delays.

Officials urge those traveling to slow down, use caution and carry emergency supplies. Road conditions for California highways are available by calling 511, and travelers heading into park areas should check for closures or restrictions before departing.

Snow is expected to taper late Monday night as the system gradually exits the region, though some lingering impacts may remain into early Tuesday.
