Fresno, Calif. – A stretch of dangerous late-summer heat is setting up across Central California, with temperatures expected to reach the upper 90s Tuesday and Wednesday, creating health risks for outdoor workers and vulnerable residents.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a high-pressure system building over the state will push heat risk into the moderate to major category across much of the San Joaquin Valley. Communities including Fresno, Bakersfield, Visalia, and Merced could see afternoon highs near 100 degrees, with little overnight cooling in some locations.

Officials warn that extended time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day could lead to heat-related illness. The California Office of Emergency Services advises residents to limit strenuous activity, stay hydrated, and check on seniors or neighbors without reliable air conditioning. Outdoor workers are urged to take frequent breaks and use shade whenever possible.

The heat is expected to peak Wednesday before easing slightly toward late week, but warm conditions will linger. The Weather Service said additional advisories could be issued if temperatures hold near triple digits longer than expected.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday for much of the Central Valley, with the most severe heat risk centered around Fresno and surrounding counties.
