Fresno, Calif. – Extreme heat is gripping Central California as temperatures hover near 104 degrees, with an Excessive Heat Warning remaining in effect until 8 a.m. Monday. Overnight lows have offered little relief, staying in the 70s and lower 80s.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, the warning covers much of the southern San Joaquin Valley, including Fresno, Bakersfield, Clovis, Avenal, Coalinga, and nearby foothill communities. The agency warns that the prolonged stretch of hot weather significantly raises the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, and those without access to cooling.

Local emergency managers urge residents to stay indoors during the hottest hours, use air conditioning where possible, and check on relatives and neighbors. Bakersfield and Fresno officials also remind drivers not to leave children or pets in cars, where interior temperatures can turn deadly in minutes.

This extreme heat is expected to ease later Monday morning, but forecasters note temperatures across the valley will remain well above seasonal averages through much of the week.
