Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C. – The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg warns that light freezing rain will return tonight across the northern North Carolina mountains and foothills northeast of the French Broad Valley, creating slick and hazardous travel conditions through early Tuesday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 PM Monday to 10 AM Tuesday for the highlighted mountain counties. Forecasters expect ice accumulations up to 0.2 inches, enough to make roads, bridges, and sidewalks slippery, particularly at higher elevations and shaded areas.

Most areas outside the advisory zone should experience mainly rain, though some sleet may briefly mix in during the onset of precipitation this evening with no significant accumulation expected.

Travelers in advisory areas are urged to slow down and use caution tonight and during the Tuesday morning commute, as even light icing can quickly create dangerous road conditions.
