New York, NY — A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Orange and Putnam Counties as freezing rain is expected to develop late Sunday afternoon and continue into the overnight hours.
According to the National Weather Service New York NY, the advisory is valid from 4 PM Sunday through 2 AM EST Monday. During this time, light ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch are expected as rain freezes on contact with cold surfaces.
While ice amounts will be relatively light, even small accumulations can lead to slick and hazardous travel conditions, particularly on bridges, overpasses, sidewalks, and untreated roadways. Drivers may encounter difficult travel, especially during the evening and nighttime hours.
Although widespread power outages are not anticipated, isolated outages remain possible if ice accumulates on tree limbs or power lines.
Residents are encouraged to slow down while driving, allow extra travel time, and use caution when walking outdoors. Staying informed of local road conditions through state and local transportation services is strongly recommended.
