Asheville, NC – Freezing rain is creating hazardous conditions across western North Carolina this morning, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until noon Sunday. Ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are expected, with locally higher amounts possible in higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service, areas including Asheville, Black Mountain, and Transylvania and Buncombe counties are at risk. Winds may gust up to 30 mph, adding to potential challenges like downed tree limbs and power outages. Officials warn that roads, sidewalks, and bridges are likely to become slippery.

The advisory covers other areas such as Caldwell, Alexander, and McDowell counties. Residents are urged to delay unnecessary travel and use caution if driving cannot be avoided.
