CHICAGO, IL – The National Weather Service in Chicago says light winds and bitter cold tonight could lead to the formation of freezing fog across parts of northern Illinois, potentially creating slick spots early Friday morning.

Overnight lows are expected to plunge to between -7°F and 7°F, with wind chills ranging from -5°F to -15°F.

Friday will remain frigid, with highs only in the mid-20s to upper 20s, and a chance of snow or freezing drizzle later in the day (20–30%).

The wintry pattern continues through the weekend, bringing several rounds of potential snow:

  • Saturday: 30–60% chance of snow showers, highs near 30°F.
  • Sunday: 50% chance of morning snow, highs near 28°F.
  • Monday: Another round of light snow possible (40–60%), highs around 25°F.

Residents are urged to drive cautiously, especially during early morning hours when roads and bridges may become slick from freezing fog or drizzle.
