Davenport, IA – Freezing drizzle is forecast to create potentially hazardous road conditions across parts of eastern Iowa and northern Illinois late tonight into Monday morning, impacting commuters on key routes like I-80 and local highways.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing drizzle is expected to develop after midnight, with icy patches likely between 12 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday. Minor ice accumulation is possible, especially on untreated roads, sidewalks, and bridges. Areas north of a line from Cedar Rapids, IA, to Princeton, IL, are at the greatest risk for slippery conditions. Gusty south winds up to 15 mph may further reduce visibility in some areas. Drivers are urged to use caution, monitor road conditions, and allow extra travel time for the Monday morning commute.

Conditions will improve by late morning as temperatures rise, reaching a high of 43°F Monday afternoon with mostly sunny skies. Winds will shift to the southwest at 5-10 mph by midday. Monday night is expected to remain dry, with a low near 29°F under mostly cloudy skies.

Looking ahead, Tuesday brings mostly cloudy skies and a high near 39°F, followed by a calm Tuesday night with lows around 32°F. Christmas Day on Wednesday is forecast to be mild, with mostly cloudy skies and a high of 42°F. However, a more active weather pattern will return midweek, bringing increasing chances of rain starting late Wednesday night into Thursday. Thursday’s high is expected to reach 48°F, with a 30-50% chance of rain lingering into Friday and Saturday.

Motorists should plan for slick conditions early Monday and keep an eye on updates as the week progresses. Warmer temperatures later this week will bring some relief, but rain may impact holiday travel plans.
