Hastings, NE — The National Weather Service in Hastings has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of south-central Nebraska and north-central Kansas, in effect until 3 PM CST this afternoon.

The primary concern is light freezing drizzle, which is creating a glaze of ice on roads—especially bridges and overpasses. Even small amounts of ice can lead to hazardous driving conditions, particularly during the morning and midday hours.

According to the NWS:

  • Freezing drizzle will continue through the morning
  • Precipitation will gradually transition to light snow around midday into the afternoon
  • Little to no snow accumulation is expected
  • Dry conditions are forecast to return by this evening

Areas impacted include Hastings, Holdrege, Kearney, Adams, Clay, Webster, Franklin, Furnas, Phillips, Smith, Jewell, Osborne, Rooks, and surrounding communities across central Nebraska and north-central Kansas.

Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use extra caution on untreated surfaces. Travelers should check 511 road condition services for the latest updates before heading out.
