Omaha, NE – The National Weather Service offices in Omaha and Hastings have issued a Freeze Watch for much of southeast and south-central Nebraska, extending into north-central Kansas, in effect from late Wednesday night through Thursday morning, October 30, 2025.

Temperatures are forecast to drop into the upper 20s to near 30°F, with frost and freezing conditions likely in many rural and low-lying areas. The cold spell could kill sensitive plants, harm late-season crops, and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing such as hoses and sprinkler systems.

In addition, strong north winds up to 45 mph early Wednesday morning prompted a Wind Advisory, which remains in effect through 7 a.m. before winds gradually ease.

Residents are urged to bring sensitive vegetation indoors, cover outdoor plants, and insulate exposed pipes to prevent damage.

Temperatures are expected to moderate slightly by the weekend, but Thursday morning’s chill may mark the first widespread freeze of the fall season for the region.
