Midland, TX – A Freeze Watch is in effect for southeast New Mexico and southwest and western Texas, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 23°F late Saturday night through Sunday morning. The National Weather Service has warned that these sub-freezing conditions could pose risks to sensitive vegetation in the region.
According to the National Weather Service, the Freeze Watch affects a wide area, including Midland, Odessa, Carlsbad, and Marfa. The coldest temperatures are expected in the mountainous regions, where conditions could reach the low 20s. Elsewhere, areas may experience temperatures around 29°F.
Residents are urged to take immediate precautions to protect young plants and crops, as late-season cold snaps have the potential to damage or kill them. It is advised to cover plants or bring them indoors to shield them from the freezing conditions. In addition, pets should be kept indoors or provided with warm, dry shelter.
The Freeze Watch will remain in effect until Sunday morning, with conditions improving by the afternoon. Residents should stay informed of updated weather alerts to ensure safety through the cold snap.
