Reno, NV – A Freeze Watch has been issued across parts of Nevada and California for late Thursday night through Friday morning. Temperatures in some rural valleys could drop as low as 25 degrees, threatening crops and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
According to the National Weather Service, the watch affects the Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden area, as well as Northern Washoe County, Pyramid Lake, and Southern Lyon Counties. In California, the freeze watch includes Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra Counties and Surprise Valley. Urban centers, such as Reno, could see temperatures dip to 28-32 degrees, while Lassen County valleys may reach the teens for several hours.
Residents are urged to take immediate precautions, including protecting sensitive plants and insulating outdoor plumbing. These conditions could kill crops and damage vulnerable vegetation.
The freeze watch will remain in effect from late Thursday night until Friday morning, with the coldest period expected early Friday. Temperatures are likely to remain low for three to four hours, impacting agricultural areas and rural communities.
Plan now to prepare homes and gardens for the sudden drop in temperature.
