Springfield, IL – A freeze watch has been issued for portions of central, east-central, and southeastern Illinois, including Springfield and surrounding areas, as sub-freezing temperatures are expected to impact the region overnight Monday into Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, the freeze watch will be in effect from midnight Monday night through 9 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures could dip as low as 25°F, with a hard freeze likely (70 to 90% chance) and frost possible across the region. Sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing are at risk of damage from the cold.
Cities affected by the freeze watch include Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, Danville, and other areas across the region. The National Weather Service recommends taking steps now to protect vulnerable plants by covering them or bringing them inside. Those with outdoor plumbing should also take precautions to prevent damage.
This is the latest in a series of chilly spring conditions that have hit Illinois in recent weeks, reminding residents to remain vigilant as the season transitions.
