New York, NY – Residents in New York City and surrounding areas face two contrasting weather threats this week: potential freezing temperatures and heightened wildfire risk. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Freeze Watch for Orange County, predicting lows around 30 degrees overnight into Monday morning. Residents should prepare for unseasonably cold weather, especially those with outdoor plants or animals. The advisory remains in effect through early Monday morning.

According to the NWS, an elevated wildfire risk will persist in the New York City metro area due to low humidity levels of 25% to 35% and dry ground conditions. The risk encompasses Orange, Putnam, and several boroughs of New York City, including Staten Island and Brooklyn. The agency strongly advises against any outdoor burning, as these conditions could quickly ignite and spread any fires.

Forecasts predict a sunny high of 56 degrees on Sunday with lows dropping to around 44 degrees at night. Monday is expected to stay sunny with highs near 58 degrees, but temperatures could plummet to around 30 degrees in some regions by early morning. For the rest of the week, highs will increase, reaching the mid-70s by Thursday. Partly cloudy skies dominate the forecast, with possible showers on Thursday night and Friday.
