WAYCROSS, GA – The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Freeze Warning for portions of southeast Georgia, in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday, as temperatures are forecast to fall as low as 29°F overnight.
Counties under the warning include Coffee, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Atkinson, Pierce, Brantley, Glynn (inland), Echols, Clinch, Camden (inland), Ware, and Charlton.
Forecasters warn that sub-freezing temperatures could damage or kill sensitive vegetation and pose a risk to pets, livestock, and outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to cover tender plants, bring pets indoors, and allow faucets to drip slowly to prevent frozen pipes.
“Take appropriate action to ensure tender vegetation and outdoor pets have adequate protection,” the NWS advised, noting that young children, the elderly, and unsheltered individuals are especially vulnerable during overnight cold snaps.
The coldest temperatures are expected just before sunrise, followed by a gradual warm-up through Wednesday afternoon.
