Charleston, WV – A Freeze Warning is in effect for portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and much of West Virginia, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 20°F overnight. The warning will remain in place from 9 PM tonight until 10 AM Wednesday, April 9.

According to the National Weather Service, the cold temperatures could cause frost and freezing conditions that may harm crops and other sensitive vegetation. The low temperatures could also damage unprotected outdoor plumbing, including hose spigots.

Residents in affected areas are urged to take precautionary steps to protect plants and winterize plumbing. It’s also recommended that individuals cover sensitive plants and bring any outdoor plants indoors to prevent damage.

The Freeze Warning impacts a broad region, including cities such as Huntington, Charleston, Athens, and Parkersburg. The cold front is expected to move through quickly, but residents should remain cautious through the morning hours of April 9.
