MELBOURNE, Fla. — A Freeze Warning has been issued for parts of central Florida as temperatures are expected to fall to near or below freezing early Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
The warning is in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday for inland areas of Brevard County and much of central Florida, including Lake, Volusia, Seminole, Orange, Osceola, Okeechobee, and portions of Indian River and St. Lucie counties.
Forecasters say overnight low temperatures are expected to range between 27 and 32 degrees, cold enough to damage sensitive vegetation and potentially burst exposed pipes. A Cold Weather Advisory will also be in place for portions of east-central Florida early Friday morning.
Residents are urged to take precautions to protect the “four P’s” — people, pets, plants, and pipes. Officials recommend bringing pets indoors, covering or bringing in sensitive plants, and insulating exposed plumbing where possible.
This freeze marks one of the coldest nights of the season for central Florida and could have impacts on agriculture and outdoor infrastructure. Motorists should also be aware that cold temperatures can create slick spots on bridges and overpasses, especially in inland locations.
Forecasters advise residents to monitor local forecasts for updates as conditions evolve overnight.
