Waycross, GA – Residents across southeast Georgia are urged to prepare for a sharp temperature drop tonight as the National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Freeze Warning from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. EST Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to fall to around 32 degrees, with frost likely in low-lying and rural areas. The warning includes Coffee, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Atkinson, Pierce, Brantley, Clinch, and Ware Counties, as well as parts of Charlton County.

Officials advise residents to cover tender plants, bring outdoor pets inside, and ensure elderly neighbors and young children are kept warm during the early morning hours. “Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold,” the agency said in its Friday morning alert.

The cold spell will be brief, with temperatures expected to rise back into the 50s and 60s by Saturday afternoon. Still, forecasters emphasize that this marks one of the first freezes of the season for the region and could damage sensitive vegetation if precautions aren’t taken.

Drivers are also encouraged to be cautious on early-morning commutes, as frost formation could make some road surfaces slick.
