Tallahassee, FL – A freeze warning and cold weather advisory are in effect for portions of southeast Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and southwest Georgia through Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a cold weather advisory remains active from 10 p.m. EST Sunday to 1 p.m. EST Monday, with wind chills expected to drop as low as 13°F. A freeze warning is also in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, with temperatures forecasted to reach 24°F in some areas.
These conditions could lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure and may damage crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected plumbing. Portions of the inland Florida Panhandle could experience extreme cold, with wind chills below 15°F early Monday.
Residents are advised to dress warmly, keep pets indoors, and ensure outdoor animals have warm shelters. Older adults and neighbors should be checked on frequently. To prevent pipe damage, wrap or drain outdoor pipes and cover sprinkler systems.
Travelers and outdoor workers should exercise caution. Portable heaters and generators must be used safely to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
This alert affects areas including Dothan, Albany, Chipley, and DeFuniak Springs. Temperatures are expected to rise later Monday afternoon.
